Description

This is a replacement compass for the default compass in there. It provides several features in addition to the standard compass.

This compass is a Derivative work of the Bedican Compass under software license from Bedican Solutions.

Features / Advantages

Made to minimize load on your there client. It does not overly animate, or leak memory as compared to other compasses
Does not contain secret triggers or triggers that allow others to control your avatar
Does not communicate with a server, completely stand alone and future proof
Actively developed
Does not echo irrelevant information to chat when you type commands, waste of bandwidth
Does not allow emote or chat flooding
Has command line for keeping commands private
Pioneered almost all features contained within, not copied from someone else.
Officially licensed from Bedican Solutions and derived from Bedican Compass since 2008.

Operation

Compass

Clicking the lock icon on the compass will toggle compass lock, this keeps the compass on screen even when other panels are opened. The compass panel cannot be closed when locked.

Needle

Clicking the compass needle (arrow) will toggle the compass mode from dial to needle rotation.

In needle rotation mode you can rotate the dial by clicking and drgging it around in a cricle to modify your heading relation. This is useful for rotating a bearing to north and staying on that heading.

Heading

Your heading is displayed in a box underneath the compass in in degrees 0-360°, clicking on this heading will toggle the compass into hi resolution mode, it is displayed to the second decimal place and is updated much faster. This mode will cause the client to memory leak faster and will lead to the broken UI and browser issues so its use is not recomended unless necessary.

The compass can display heading ticks in orange on the compass dial by using the /heading command.

Altitude

Your altitude is displayed in a box underneath the compass heading , clicking on this will force an update, otherwise it updates automatically every 10 seconds.

Clicking the menu item Emotes will launch the emotomatic application.

Clicking the menu item GPS will launch the gps application.

Listener

Triggers: Triggers,alias,.. - Triggers can have multiple aliases, typing either peforms the same operation.

Arguments: [] are expected, {} are optional, some commands do different things with and without arguments.

Help: Command help can be obtained by typing a command and using "?" as its first argument.

Quickbar integration

Command alias's are defined for the typical quickbar item categories
for example /buggy is shorthand for /qb buggy
which will perform the primary function of takeout.

There is one argument for them which specifies the option to execute
for example
/buggy performs primary(icon) (takeout) on the buggy
/buggy a performs optiona(blue) (drive) on the buggy
/buggy b performs optionb(orange) (put away) on the buggy

There are alias's for these arguments also to make this more natural, they are as follows

a,drive,hopon,use will all perform the blue button option A

b,in,away,retrieve will all perform the orange option B

There are also some shortcuts for these such as /reload which is an alias for /pb a

When using these quickbar commands the items marked as your favorite (indicated with the yellow star) will be acted on first. If no favorite is specified for that category, then the first one of that category on your quickbar will be used. If for example you have 5 buggies, and do a /buggy it will take out the first buggy. If you go into the quickbar config and drag and drop a buggy on to the star icon, then that buggy will be your favorite and it will be used instead.

For vehicles the triggers also respect the 5 second primary override so this means that you can type /buggy , wait for it to drop and type /buggy a second time while the quickbar button icon is blue and you will drive it.

Of course you may want to use the new repeat alias \ to do it the second time.

GoBar Integration

GoBar can be launched ftom the teleport panel or with the commands /gobar or /goto

The trace button will echo out a /trace command with the coordinates.

Special Commands

These dont have any full functionality yet but are part of a future customization and scripting environment

/set color {hexcolor} - sets the background color tinting to hex color eg. "ff0000", blank = default,
/set color random - sets the background color and tint level randomly
/set tint {0-100} - sets the background color tint level, blank = default,0=color not applied, try 50
/set alpha {0-100} - sets the compass background alpha, blank = default,
/set title {text} - sets titlebar text
/msg {text} - displays a titlebar message
/heading - toggles a heading marker bookmark in the compass
/echo $variable - support for replacement variables
/echo $time,$name,$doid,$rep,$mytext,$otherstext,$url - a security model for these is still being developed

These might give you some ideas for future use of compass commands that can be chained togather and used as macros in the future, it is still under development. An event could throw up a messages or call external functions such as take the last text and send it somewhere and include my doid. webpage?doid=$doid&text=$rep. Such as calling translation services or infobot queries.

Saved Settings

There is currently no GUI for setting these options, however they are saved when you press save in the settings panel. See above special commands for setting these.

title is the default text in the compass titlebar - default is none
compasslock sets compass panel lock default 0/1(unlocked/locked) - default is 0
compassmode is "needle" or "dial" - default is dial
color is set using /set color - default is FFFFFF
tint is set using /set tint - default is 100
alpha is set using /set alpha - default is 30

Simply remember to press save after doing these and they will be remembered.

Your saves may be deleted if you use a flash cookie cleaning program!

Installation

This application replaces the default There compass application.

The application is provided via the Universal Installer.

Simply run the installer and ensure your installation points to your correct installation folder.

If you've installed There into a folder other than the default you will want change the install path.
(It will try to auto-detect this)

Uninstallation

A backup of the application is provided if you want to restore the original.
Simply delete the compass.swf and rename compass.original.swf back to compass.swf and restart the compass. The default location is C:\makena\there\thereclient\resources\compass\
